I AM NOT YOUR EVE by Devika Ponnambalam has been long-listed for the £25K WALTER SCOTT PRIZE the world’s leading literary prize for historical fiction. I AM NOT YOUR EVE is the story of Tahitian muse and 12-year-old child bride of Paul Gauguin, Teha’amana. It is a novel that finally gives Teha’amana a voice as her story is told through the myths and legends of the islands and one that travels through history and finally asks to be heard. DEVIKA PONNAMBALAM was born in 1969 in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei, and grew up in London. She graduated from the National Film and Television School in Fiction Directing in 1998. She has received film commissions from the Arts Council of England, Film Four and the British Film Institute. In 2004, Devika graduated with an MA in Creative Writing (Prose) from the University of East Anglia. In 2018, she traveled to Tahiti with the assistance of a research and development grant awarded by Creative Scotland. She currently lives in Edinburgh, Scotland.
